Locating and Accessing ASM International Online Technical Content

This page is a concise guide to locating ASM materials information content available in online platforms.

ASM Digital Library

The ASM Digital Library is the current source for ASM International reference content, including ASM Handbooks Online, ASM Technical Books, ASM Failure Analysis Database, and Alloy Digest.

The AM&P Technical Articles site provides access to Advanced Materials & Processes feature articles and ASM News items from current issues back to 2012.

The EDFA Technical Articles site provides access to Electronic Device Failure Analysis feature articles and columns. The coverage is complete back to Volume 1, Issue 1 (1998).

The Digital Library also includes papers from the following conference series: Heat Treating, International Symposium for Testing and Failure Analysis (ISTFA), Advanced Materials for Power Plants, Shape Memory and Superelastic Technology (SMST), and International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC). The coverage varies by series; select the “All Years” link in the site navigation to see the available years.

ASM Journals

ASM Journals published with Springer Nature

ASM International publishes the following journals in partnership with Springer Nature: Journal of Failure Analysis and Prevention (JFAP), Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance (JMEP),  Journal of Phase Equilibria and Diffusion (JPED), Journal of Thermal Spray Technology (JTST),  Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis (MMA), and Shape Memory and Superelasticity (SMJ). Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A&B

ASM International publishes the following journals in partnership with The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS) and Springer Nature: Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A (MMTA) and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B (MMTB). The complete content of these journals is available on SpringerLink. Free access to the full text of the MMT journals is provided as a benefit of membership in ASM International. International Materials Reviews

ASM International publishes International Materials Reviews (IMR) in partnership with the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3) and Sage Publications. The complete IMR content is available on the Sage Journals site.

The ASM website has complete digital replicas of AM&P issues from the current issue back to July/August 2017.

Electronic Device Failure Analysis

The ASM and Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society websites have complete digital replicas of EDFA issues from the current issue back to May 2017.

ASM Databases

ASM Databases provide powerful ways to search, access, and compare data on materials compositions, structures, properties, and performance. ASM Content Not in Digital Products

ASM International and its predecessors (including the American Society for Steel Treating and the American Society for Metals) have published technical content resources for over a century. Many older content resources, mainly those published before 2000, are not currently available in digital format. Examples include:

  • Reference Content: Metals Handbook volumes, Engineered Materials Handbook volumes, older monographs, and older data publications.
  • Journals: Transactions of the American Society for Steel Treating, Transactions of the American Society for Metals (ASM Transactions), and Metals Engineering Quarterly.
  • Magazines: Metal Progress, Heat Treating Progress, older volumes of Advanced Materials & Processes (before 2012).
  • Conference Proceedings: Joining of Advanced and Specialty Materials, Materials and Processes for Medical Devices, Microstructural Science, Surface Modification Technologies, Trends in Welding Research, and several other conference series.

Document Delivery

Some of the articles not available in ASM digital products may be indexed in bibliographic databases or cited in other publications. The best option for locating and obtaining copies of older items is via document delivery providers, such as:
