Committees
EDFAS committees channel member involvement into tangible programs, products and services. These committees stay on top of technical advances and other areas of member interest. By doing so, they bring new information to the members through products and services including:
Conference and exposition programming
Course development
Reference and periodical publications
Research and development planning and implementation
If you enjoy working with other top professionals, we invite you to get involved on a committee. Through the products they develop and refine, these volunteers provide information and expertise that make a direct contribution to the field of failure analysis.
EDFAS BOARD
The Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society fosters education and communication in the failure analysis community. The Society serves as a resource for all failure analysis professionals from beginners to experts by gathering and sharing the collective knowledge and experience of its members.
EDFA EDITORIAL BOARD
The Editorial Board of Electronic Device Failure Analysis magazine aids the EDFA editor in manuscript acquisition in order to present timely and significant information to the members of EDFAS. The Board helps the EDFA editor to identify suitable article topics and authors, invites those approved by the Board, and provides technical review of submitted manuscripts.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The EDFAS Education Committee shall develop and offer educational programs in the area of electronic device failure analysis to serve the needs of EDFAS members and the world community of electronic device failure analysis.
EVENTS COMMITTEE
The Events Committee is the ISTFA Organizing Committee responsible for the leading symposium serving the microelectronics failure analysis community.
FA TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP COMMITTEE
The purpose of the FA Technology Roadmap is to leverage the technical expertise captured throughout the industry to identify both current and future FA challenges as part of an annual industry-wide gap analysis. To have this effort formalized and available across the industry in an interactive and inclusive manner will not only return a critical compilation of relevant action items it will also serve as a recognized technical platform from which future failure analysts will benefit. In addition, its purpose is to serve as a technical platform from which everyone connected to the industry can learn, interact, and prepare for the future.
The Committee is comprised of four councils.
- Die-Level Roadmap Council (DLRC) – Isolation Domain
- Die-Level Roadmap Council (DLRC) – Post-Isolation Domain
- Package Innovation Roadmap Council (PIRC)
- FA Future Roadmap Council (FAFRC)
MEMBERSHIP SUBCOMMITTEE
The EDFAS Membership Subcommittee contributes to the success of ASM International and EDFAS through its ongoing membership program initiatives including: actively enhancing and owning the member value proposition (new products, services and value); growing and retaining membership by demonstrating and reinforcing the value proposition; supporting and guiding chapters and affiliate society membership programs and volunteers; improving membership communications throughout the organization and implementing the initiatives of the strategic plan.
The EDFAS Students and Young Professionals Committee
The Students & Young Professionals (SYP) Committee is an EDFAS initiative that advances the Society’s mission to foster education and communication in the failure analysis community by developing programs tailored to students and early‑career practitioners—helping them build networks, develop essential skills, and connect with EDFAS resources. This may include:
- Serve as liaisons to other EDFAS committees – including Education, Events/ISTFA Organizing, and FA Technology Roadmap committee.
- Coordinate student/Young Professionals‑focused programming at ISTFA and EDFAS events such as help organizing EDFAS FA workshops at universities and organize ISTFA Student Poster Contest.
- Host webinars and short‑format tutorials that introduce key FA topics and spotlight career paths.
- Elevate emerging contributors across the EDFAS community by providing recognition and early leadership opportunities through the SYP Mentorship Program, supported by ASM Senior Members and Fellows.
- Contribute content to EDFAS magazine and member channels.
Pilot initiatives that cultivate future EDFAS leaders.
An important function of this committee is helping its members make professional connections early in their career.
