The volume had its origins in the ASM technical books <em>Characterization and Failure Analysis of Plastics<\/em> (2003) and <em>Engineered Materials Handbook, <\/em>Volume 2<em>, Engineering Plastics<\/em> (1988). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif\">Volume 11B contains divisions devoted to polymer science; material selection and design with engineering plastics; chemical, thermal, and physical analysis of plastics; mechanical behavior and testing of plastics; degradation mechanisms of plastics; failure analysis of plastics; and analysis and prevention of plastic product failures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif\">The general principles of failure analysis are presented in the companion <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/handbooks\/-\/journal_content\/56\/10192\/42240310\/PUBLICATION\"><em>ASM Handbook<\/em>, Volume 11: <em>Failure Analysis and Prevention<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, which was published in 2021. Its divisions cover the practice of failure analysis, tools and techniques, fatigue and fracture, environmental and corrosion-related failures, wear failures, and distortion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin-top: 3.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif\">Another companion volume, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/materials-resources\/results\/-\/journal_content\/56\/10192\/44384411\/PUBLICATION\"><em>ASM Handbook<\/em>, Volume 11A: <em>Analysis and Prevention of Component and Equipment Failures<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, also published in 2021.
