Basics of Heat Treating, June 15-17, 2026

Event Date:

June 15, 2026

Event Time:

8:30 am

Event Location:

ASM International

Basics of Heat Treating is designed for individuals new to heat treating or those transitioning into roles that involve heat treatment processes. This course explores foundational principles including phase diagrams, heat treatment processes, and how thermal processing affects the microstructure and mechanical properties of steel.

Processes such as annealing, normalizing, hardening, and tempering will be examined, along with specialized treatments for tool steels and stainless steels, with illustrated examples connecting theory to practical applications. By the end of the course, students will be able to explain heat treating fundamentals, communicate more effectively with heat treating specialists, and be prepared for more advanced training or roles in the field.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS CLASS?

  • Manufacturing engineers and technicians with foundational metallurgical knowledge
  • Quality control inspectors in metals processing
  • Metallurgical technicians seeking specialized heat treatment training
  • Production supervisors overseeing heat treating operations
  • Materials engineers transitioning into heat treatment roles
  • Part designers working with heat-treated components
  • Material specifiers for manufacturing applications
  • Laboratory personnel in metallurgy or materials testing
  • Process engineers responsible for thermal processing
  • Purchasing and technical sales professionals in the metals industry
