SMST Board Nominations
The ASM SMST is currently soliciting nominations for one president and one vice president/finance officer for a two year term and two (2) candidates for a three-year term on the SMST Board of Directors. Terms begin October 1, 2026. Any member of SMST in good standing is encouraged to nominate themselves or another member for one of these positions. The Incumbents may also seek re-appointment by notifying the Awards and Nominations Committee Chair, Othmane Benafan [email protected]. Nominations are due March 1.
Candidates are asked to provide a three-page nomination package to include the candidate’s:
- academic/business biography
- shape memory alloy background
- SMST involvement
- vision for the future of SMST
- photograph and contact information
Service on the SMST Board of Directors involves planning and driving the future strategy of your society. The Board of Directors meets four times a year by teleconference and one face-to-face.
Candidates are encouraged to ensure that they have the support of their employer for this activity.

SMST Student Board Members
To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student member during the academic year, with an interest in the field of shape memory alloys.
To apply, submit an application package consisting of:
- A current resume
- A two-page essay (typed and double-spaced) addressing your interest in participating in the program. Please address the following points:
- What experiences led to your interest in this program?
- What qualities, characteristics, and skills do you possess that will make you a strong candidate to serve as a student representative to the SMST Board?
- What do you hope to learn/gain from this program?
3. Two letters of recommendation from faculty.
Applications will be reviewed by the SMST Nominating Committee, which will forward recommendations to the SMST Board for approval.
