FAS Board Nominations

The ASM FAS is soliciting nominations for candidates for the FAS Board Directors. Nominations are for a vice-president, and a secretary for a one-year term, two board positions for a three-year term, and one Emerging Professional Board Member for a one-year term; beginning October 1, 2026. Any member of FAS in good standing is encouraged to nominate themselves or another member for one of these positions. Applications are due March 1.

Candidates are asked to provide a three-page nomination package to include the candidate’s:

  • academic/business biography
  • failure analysis background
  • FAS and ASM involvement
  • vision for the future of FAS
  • photograph and contact information
  • confirmation of employers’ support

Service on the FAS Board of Directors involves planning and driving the future strategy of your society.  The Board of Directors meets one face-to-face a year and conducts three teleconferences.   Board members also provide liaison support to the several FAS Committees which may involve a few additional conference calls.

Candidates are encouraged to ensure that they have the support of their employer for this activity.

FAS Student Board Members

To be eligible, you must be a Material Advantage undergraduate or graduate student member during the academic year, with an interest in the field of failure analysis, metallurgy/materials science.

To apply, submit an application package consisting of:

  1. A current resume
  2. A two-page essay (typed and double-spaced) addressing your interest in participating in the program. Please address the following points:
  • What experiences led to your interest in this program?
  • What qualities, characteristics, and skills do you possess that will make you a strong candidate to serve as a student representative to the FAS Board?
  • What do you hope to learn/gain from this program?

3. Two letters of recommendation from faculty.

Applications will be reviewed by the FAS Nominating Committee, which will forward recommendations to the FAS Board for approval.

Applications for Student Board Member deadline is April 1.
