Beware of Hotel and Registration Scams!
As of late, ASM has been aware of various types of scams related to our events. The three most common include:

  1. Credit card fraud through selling fake reservations: Scammers have been known to reach out to prospective attendees, often using ASM’s company and conference names in the email body or subject line, claiming they can book them hotel rooms at cheaper rates than can be found elsewhere. Rather than booking the room you paid for, they take your information and run. Other methods range from requesting payment through payment apps like PayPal and Cash App, to asking for gift cards as payment.
  2. Booking attendees outside of the official block: We at ASM are proud of the value we provide for our attendees who choose to purchase a hotel in one of our registered blocks, and we are constantly striving to provide even more value. Unfortunately, there exist pirates who will reach out to attendees and offer them hotel prices that appear cheaper but often are not. They may lure you in with cheaper prices, only to claim they are “out” of reservations at the initially agreed upon price, then they end up charging you the same rate, if not more, as if you were to book within our block. Further, they are not offering the additional value that ASM provides when you book a hotel in our block.
  3. Selling confidential attendee lists: Our attendee lists are extremely confidential. Everyone who has access to them either works at or closely with ASM, or is an exhibitor contractually bound to keep it confidential. Often times, scammers will reach out to people claiming they have a copy of our attendee list and are willing to share it with you… for a price. In actuality, they are just trying to get your money/credit card information and have no plans of giving you access to an attendee list they do not even have.

The best way to identify one of these scammers is to check the email address they are contacting you from. If it does not end in @asminternational.org, DO NOT TRUST IT. If you wish to book a hotel in our block for an upcoming event, please stick to the information available on our pamphlets, on our website or sent to you via an official email from ASM International.

If you come across any of these scammers, please forward them along to [email protected] so we can deal with them accordingly.

Stay safe, stay protected, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
